Benchrest Shooting
The International Sport of Benchrest Shooting was introduced as part of the Indoor Smallbore Shooting Programme at our new range at Saxton field. The idea was to introduce an alternative form of shooting ideally suited to those who have difficulty with or can no longer shoot the traditional prone event. Benchrest is shot from a bench with the shooter sitting beside the rifle.
As the name implies, the rifle is placed on a pedestal on our concrete benches and lined up and shot from this position over our 25-yard range. As our rifles are equipped with telescopic sights this enables even those with poor sight to see what is happening, while trying to achieve pinpoint accuracy.
Shooter safety is our prime concern and all measures are taken to keep shooters and onlooker safe. Our events are conducted by Qualified Range Officers.
As you progress there is the opportunity to participate at various events from Local, Regional and National.
The Benchrest Club meets on Tuesday Afternoons from 1pm at the Saxton Field Range.
Feel free to come and test our club and this sport to see whether it is suitable for you.
Club Rifles are available, and all necessary assistance is available for new shooters.
Membership ranges from under 20 to over 80 with a number of ladies as members.
